Knowledge sharing and up-skilling our community are a big part of Kustom Kommune. Over the years, our motorcycle mechanics have developed a broad curriculum of maintenance courses aimed at beginners starting their two-wheel adventures through to experienced riders wanting to brush up on skills.
We’re currently looking for new trainers to host courses and support Melbourne’s moto-community by sharing their passion and skills.
Instructors must be highly knowledgeable in their field, although there’s no requirement for professional qualifications. Kommune courses are designed to equip students with the basic skills and confidence needed to maintain and customise their own machines. Trainers must have a vibrant and engaging way of relaying knowledge and teaching skills and absolutely must have a passion for classic and custom motorcycles. If “old sh*t” annoys you, this probably isn’t your bag! Beyond these prerequisites, the key to a successful session is a trainer who understands the crew might be new to motorcycles and are here to learn. We pride ourselves on creating a supportive environment that encourages people to ask questions, build confidence through learning and go on to help each other both in and outside of Kommune.
Our current curriculum of mechanical courses are split into two versions and we’re looking for trainers to cover the following topics:
Training Courses
Theory heavy classes of up to 10 students with some hands-on topics
- Introduction to Basic Maintenance
- Introduction to Carbs & Tuning
- Introduction to Moto Electrics
- Introduction to Welding & Fabrication
Hands-on Workshops
Students work on their own motorcycles covering a single specific topic for the evening. Limited to 5 students per course, trainers will offer hands-on assistance and provide practical advice on the topic.
- Brake Service Workshop
- Chain & Sprocket Workshop
- Basic Servicing Workshop
Courses are held on Monday evenings 630pm – 1000pm on a rotating basis, approx. every 10 weeks.
Have skills not listed above?
Do you have a topic in mind that you feel our community would love? We’re always keen to introduce new topics as a one-off or as a regular feature if they’re well received. Let us know the details and we’ll work with you to provide an excellent experience for students.
Ticketed courses and free sessions
Some trainers are simply looking for an outlet to share their knowledge, others are looking for a side hustle. We’re happy to support both. If a trainer offers to donate their time to host a course, we’ll offer that course to our members for free. Trainers that host ticketed courses will be paid for their time and we’re happy to negotiate a per-course rate.
