Motorcycle gear that protects you no longer needs to look daggy. New fabric and armour technology has advanced what keeps us safe and looking good. Here’s our picks of some of the best with a mix of safety meets fashion.

Biltwell has recently hit the ECE helmet market with the release of the Lane Splitter nailing the 1970’s retro style. The Biltwell helmet’s clear flip visor offers accurate optics (no distortion) and has a simple hinge to make opening a closing a breeze. Biltwell is well known for their on trend styling and offers a huge range of colours and graphics. Make a statement with a bright coloured helmet that also helps you be seen on the road!

The Saint’s Unbreakable Model 1 jacket looks as good it performs. Single layer technologies are quickly becoming a standard in the moto-industry. Single layer means exactly that: no liners such as kevlar etc. Saint blends the world’s strongest fibre, UHMWPE or Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene into it’s fabrics, creating some of the strongest single layer fabric in the world. UHMWPE is an extremely tough plastic with high abrasion and wear resistance, meaning high levels of slide protection. The Saint Model 1 Jacket also integrates high impact protection with slots for back and elbow armour.

Fit is important to the team at Saint andthe Model 1 Jacket is a perfect example. With a slimmer form fitting cut and longer than average sleeves (reaching forward and sleeves riding up sucks) the Model 1 jacket looks as good off the bike, as it does on.

  • Saint Unbreakable 2.0 fabric
  • Accordion panels in arms for easy movement
  • 360° impact, burst and abrasion resistant
  • Scooped back for protection
  • Pockets for back and elbow armour
  • Single layer
  • Saint’s UHMWPE fibres are stronger than steel and float on water

We hate big bulky gloves, that look like they come from medieval times. The Ellaspede Road Rider Glove utilises some of the latest technology creating an extremely protective glove, while keeping a minimal aesthetic and feeling comfortable. Best yet, it works with your phone.

A good set of gloves should offer extra palm and knuckle protection, while covering wrists. Ellaspede’s Road Rider Glove utilises SuperFabric® on the palms. SuperFabric® is created by infusing tiny, hard guard plates into the surface of fabric, creating a tough flexible surface that has high levels of abrasion resistance. PORON® XRD™ is fitted to the knuckles: The XRD® protection offers unparalleled high speed impact resistance. The soft contouring material instantly dissipates force upon impact – absorbing up to 90% of energy at high speed impact, meaning the gloves are comfortable, flexible and offer high levels of protection.

  • Full cowhide leather outer construction
  • SuperFabric® palm protection
  • Full COOLMAX® moisture wick lining
  • PORON® XRD™ knuckle protection
  • Cash stash pocket
  • Phone touch finger tips
  • Double layer palm grip
  • Impact tested over 18 months
  • Double stitched
  • Abrasion resistant
  • Red leather details

For a long time it’s been hard to find moto-jeans that offer high levels of protection and look good. With the competition in the market growing, new technologies are being developed and more fashionable cuts are becoming a bigger focus.

Draggin Jeans Twista is one of our favourite jeans, especially during the colder riding seasons. Not only does the lining offer some of the highest levels of slide protection, it also helps to keep you warm with the additional layer of fabric. Draggin’s jeans are lined with a fabric of their own design, RooMoto® MR7+. It’s a thinner, lighter fabric with more abrasion resistance than traditional Kevlar, and comes with the longest slide time. Roomoto® MR7+ almost doubles the abrasion resistance from 4.4 seconds to more than 7.46 seconds. This is higher than the slide time for CE level 2 safety rating. Resulting in over 75 metres of slide time. Draggin Jeans Twista isalso fitted with knee armour pockets for CE rated impact protection.

  • No external stitching
  • Skinny Leg
  • Roomoto MR7+ protective lining
  • Min. 7.45 seconds or 75 metres slide time
  • Traditional 5 pocket design
  • No rivets so you don’t scratch your bike
  • Side and rear seam construction triple stitched
  • Performance Mesh Liner to prevent heat transfer from road friction
  • Knee armour pockets for CE approved protectors

You can buy protectors separately, if the built-in protectors don’t fit snugly or your gear doesn’t come with armour as standard. Armour comes in a variety of materials including plastic, moulded rubber and dual density foam. High standard armour has CE EN1621 approval, which is what you should be looking for. Some of the most common is D3o, which is an extremely flexible, low profile and lightweight and offers incredible protection. The best bit is, most of this armour is removable. Meaning you can wear your gear comfortably off the bike.

Armour can typically be fitted to Back, Shoulders, Elbows, Hip & Knee. Ticking all these boxes keeps you much more protected when on the road.
