GEAR RIGHT. LOOK TIGHT. CAFE RACER.

Many of us have café racers to thank for either getting us into motorbikes, or drawing our attention back behind the bars.  Now, thanks to brands like Scorpion, RST and Draggin, we can look as fresh as our clip-on equipped customs, while still having the best protection in the business. Here are our picks of some of the best combinations of safety and style for café racer styled bikes.

HELMET

SCORPION VINTAGE

Scorpion’s Vintage line-up of helmets join an illustrious list of lids, blending old school cool with modern tech’. The lightweight, high-strength shells sport premium aluminium fittings, and the huge visors, which are great for field of vision, can be had in both clear and dark tints. There are four adjustable vents to make sure you don’t boil in summer (or freeze in winter) and understated logos on the rim of the helmet ensure the clean, solid colour ways aren’t ruined by shouty branding. Scorpion hasn’t forgotten about what’s inside either, with a Soft Feel comfort liner that’s trimmed with brown PU Leather to complete the look.

FEATURES:

  • Fibreglass or carbon fibre shell
  • Clear anti-scratch visor
  • Removable Soft Feel liner with PU Leather trim in Retro Brown

JEANS

DRAGGIN JEANS TWISTA BLUE

Draggin has been making Kevlar filled motorcycle jeans designed in Australia for 20 years. In that time, they’ve perfected their craft and the Twista – while looking like a regular skinny leg jean – will take a 75m slide in its stride. During an off, Draggin’s Kevlar and Dyneema knit gets rid of the heat generated by friction to avoid burns, and also acts to slow you down faster.

The Twista has a breathable mesh liner, with pockets in the knees for CE armour. While they might look like normal five pocket jeans, it’s the little differences, like a lack of rivets so you don’t scratch your bike, that make the Twista the perfect companion for your café racer.

FEATURES:

  • Roomoto MR7+ protective lining
  • Min. 7.45 seconds or 75m slide time
  • Traditional 5 pocket design
  • Brushed metal matt finish button
  • No rivets (no scratches on the bike)
  • Side and rear seam construction triple stitched
  • Performance Mesh Liner (prevents heat transfer from road friction)
  • Knee armour pockets for CE approved protectors

ARMOUR

CE APPROVED ARMOUR

You can buy protectors separately, if the built-in protectors don’t fit snugly or your gear doesn’t come with armour as standard. Armour comes in a variety of materials including plastic, moulded rubber and dual density foam. High standard armour has CE EN1621 approval, which is what you should be looking for. Some of the most common is D3o, which is an extremely flexible, low profile and lightweight and offers incredible protection. The best bit is, most of this armour is removable. Meaning you can wear your gear comfortably off the bike.

Armour can typically be fitted to Back, Shoulders, Elbows, Hip & Knee. Ticking all these boxes keeps you much more protected when on the road.
