Updates: Small changes during our COVID recovery

Whilst we’re all stoked that we’ve made it through some of the most difficult times we’ve faced as a community, we’re still on the road to recovery. With COVID, came time for many of us to stop, re-group and re-prioritise. With that we’ve had to say farewell to many long term friends, members and volunteers.

During this delicate stage of rebuild it’s more important than ever to make sure the space and hours are sustainable for us, Jimmy & Nina. In better economic times we’d have a team along side us to help manage the space and give us two a little time to breathe. For the last few months, it’s all sat with us; we’ve been manning the space and then heading home to attempt to relaunch training courses, update the site, apply for grants, respond to emails and most importantly create more opportunities for us to all reconnect.

This is becoming far less sustainable for us, and we need a little time to be able to focus on tasks that will get Kommune back on track, and allow us to have some personal down time before we burn out. If we go down, so does the space.

In addition to recruiting a Kommittee to get volunteers back onboard, we’re doing two things; introducing “assisted” and “unassisted” workshop sessions along with slightly reducing our opening hours to allow us to dedicate more time towards our post-covid rebuild. Assisted and unassisted time slots will hopefully encourage more bookings over a shorter time span, meaning better vibes in the workshop with more members on the tools together and will also make our time more efficient during the unassisted times.

Assisted time slots are the usual Kommune vibes, but this time round you’ll have dedicated help. Volunteers and staff will be onsite to give you as much help as you need.

Unassisted time slots will have reduced staff on-site and are intended to be times of self sufficiency. We encourage anyone needing assistance to book during an assisted time slot.

We’re going to make small amendments to opening hours, at least until we have a full roster of volunteers back on board, or our efforts to increase revenue allow us to hire.

Hours as of March 2021:

Wednesday Assisted: 5pm – 8pm
Non-assisted: 10am – 5pm
Thursday Assisted: 5pm – 8pm
Non-assisted: 10am – 5pm
Friday Assisted: 5pm – 8pm
Non-assisted: 10am – 5pm
Saturday Assisted: 10am – 8pm
Sunday Assisted: 10am – 8pm
Monday Closed
Tuesday Closed

We hope that everyone understands and that this doesn’t impact anyones opportunity to hang out at the space. If you have any questions, or want to reach out, feel free to email us on getgreasy@kustomkommune.com.au.

Stay cool, legends and thanks.

Jimmy G & Nina.
